The Trane
Home Comfort Institute As part of its ongoing commitment to its customers, The Trane Company, one of the world's leading manufacturers of quality air conditioning and heating products, has accumulated an extensive knowledge and understanding of home environmental comfort. The Trane Home Comfort Institute was established as a means of sharing that knowledge with the public.
It also educates the public on environmental issues and the impact of higher efficiency equipment on the overall electric power generating load. Studies by the Institute show that home comfort is a highly individual perception. Nevertheless, it is usually contingent on a set of criteria that include temperature, humidity, indoor air quality and noise level. The same studies show that a key factor in satisfying homeowners' desire for comfort is the reliability of the heating/air conditioning system and the durability of its components. Much of the information, test results and recommendations made by Trane Home Comfort Institute are the result of research and testing conducted at The Trane Company's Systems Extreme Environmental Test (SEET) facility on Tyler, Texas. This 9,000-square-foot laboratory -- the largest of its kind in the country -- puts heat pumps and central air conditioners through five years of wear and tear in just 16 grueling weeks by simulating extremes from arctic to desert weather conditions.
